This study asks US adults about subscriptions, payment preferences, and rent. The product examples describe possible services; this survey does not offer financing or take payments.

Who runs this study

Researcher identity will be added before the study opens.

What we collect

We save your answers, consent, survey progress, assigned scenario, answer/page timestamps, and elapsed completion time (including breaks). We also save basic device type, browser, and operating system inferred from your browser’s user-agent header. We do not save the raw header or IP address. For Prolific participants, we also save participant, study, and session IDs to link study submissions and demographic exports. Other participants answer required demographic questions. Non-Prolific participants may optionally provide an email address for interview contact; this is stored with their response and makes it identifiable. Prolific participants are not asked for an email. We do not ask for names, phone numbers, addresses, or account details.

Saving and participation

A necessary cookie connects this browser to your saved response and helps prevent duplicate public submissions. It lasts up to 90 days. We use no analytics or advertising trackers. Prolific identifiers are pseudonymous, so these responses should not be described as fully anonymous.

Your choices

Participation is voluntary. You may stop before submitting; partial answers already saved remain available to the researcher. Written explanations are optional. Required choices and public demographic questions must be answered to complete the study. Contact the researcher for questions about your data or withdrawal. Prolific participants can also use Prolific messaging.

Use and access

Responses are used to evaluate these concepts and understand differences between groups. The researcher accesses responses through a password-protected dashboard and private exports stored on the research server.
